launched at linden . Had a lot of fish but all short schoolies. Fished 1.5 hours of incoming and 2 hours of outgoing. Fish up to 20 inches. Stoped counting past 40. All on BW's. Lotsbof action mixws with some perch and cats. Wanted to get out in the salt tiday but the tides disnt agree. So hit the D. Nice day out. Biats stacked up at RC but didn't see much action there. Mist fish south of linden before bridge on Jersey side fishin on the hump.
I think we have to treat April like march and may like April I'm not only hearing about big fish here and there I know plenty of places shoulda been giving up large fish in good numbers so I'm thinking next month should be the hot month it's always really got for like a month stretch tht has yet to really happen been showing signs tht its getting ready to bust open but the numbers of bigger fish haven't yet. I'm hoping to get out tomm already itching only reason I'm posting.
Nice catches today guys and Tks to all who were concerned step pop is good and will be back out next trip hopefully
I just got back from the Susky Flats fishing jamboree. A couple of schoolies reported and a few fish in the 32" range but far and few between is the def the sentiment. Right now though, the raritan bay is on fire!!! I am going to head up there with my kayak and hopefully land a big girl!
Went out every day this weekend. Fished in Trenton/Morrisville by the train bridge and then down by the sewer pipe all during the incoming and high tides. Fished bloods, clams, bunker and finally switched to wading with a Bomber plug (black) lure. Not a single hit on bloods or the bomber. Caught only one cat (bout four lbs.) on clam. Didn't hear of anyone catching either. Either way, going to give it a break for the next few days until wensday when it warms up. Unfortunately the tides aren't cooperating and it will be low tide every time we go out this week. disgust.gif.
Hopefully you guys send some of the 30in fish up this way the next few days. Just putting the time in till I get one at this point....:frustrated:

Good morning fellow delaware river fisherman. i have been following this thread for a while because i also fish the delaware river quite frequently but i figured i would share some of this years action so far. fish are here but the water and weather change them dramatically daily. i have fished 4/14, 4/20 and 4/21. we have had a 38,28,24 and many shorts. this weekend was tough fighting the wind but i have seen many 40" fish from other boats i talk to. Good luck out there, im on the river with the white and red nitro bass boat. Hope to see some of you out there!
Very nice pics there kevinstarcar, I was down with a bad back so no offense to y'all, but I hope the cows are back by this Saturday since I missed all last week. I am going to launch at neshaminy around noon and fish till sun down. Hope to here from y'all, mu fish, gravy and all the rest. Turn on channel 17 and we will find them and catch them. Good luck till then, chuckles
Hey, Delaware River Fishermen, greetings from the Hudson River! I grew up in Ulster County, near by a section of the old Delaware and Hudson Canal that ran from Port Jervis to Kingston. So we are kin.
Tight Lines!
Depends on bait river temps and salinity of waters up river. The last being the most deciding factor they have been reported as far up river as New York even but this was taken from pa fish commission biologist :
Although salinity thresholds for striped bass spawning tend to vary among systems, they typically spawn where salinities are less than 5 ppt. Highly successful spawning has been observed in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal at salinities of 0.70 to 1.50 ppt. The lack of precipitation in the winter and early spring of 2012 allowed the salt line to advance upstream further than usual during the spring spawning period (April and May). Consequently, this may have concentrated spawning striped bass further upstream than usual and increased catch rates in Pennsylvania.
You are the man mu fish. I love the information you provide. Anyway, my brother is coming up from south Carolina this weekend so I can show him some real bass in the form of a striper. Any thoughts on what part of the river would be best. We should be on the water from noon till sunset, thanks, chuckles oh and of course I will be on channel 17.
Welcome to the site as far as from land u have a lot of options some that are more popular than others: fishing from land I would say u can pull up and fish anywhere u feel fit. The more popular spots are station ave, linden ave, Frankford arsenal, fishing pier at Tacony bridge, train bridge by Betsy Ross bridge, behind the airport/ups building. I'm sure there are plenty other places to fish the pa side of the river.
Again welcome to the site and keep us posted on your outings good or bad. Catch'em up
Fished 3 days on boat this week just above CBB. Fish are here. Each day fish were bigger and still not spawned out. Its gonna get better. I agree with MU treat april as march and may as april.
Just a update: herring and shad are still moving up river, streams, creeks. Saw waves of herring today coming up the rapids 20-30 at a time for 2 hours straight and the up by the falls its already loaded with big gizzard shad, hickory shad, I saw couple big American shad and tons of blue back herring (river herring)
Watched a hawk dive down on 3 herring while I was there caught a pic but was about 70 yards away not a clear pic but it was cool to watch.
Well wont be on the river til Sunday heading to SIC to fish the beaches for 24 hours straight wit my boy Saltlife from the barn.
Catch'em up guys the full moon has come and within next 2 days its gone turn on fire I'm sure!
I love this site, you all share so much info. and advice, thanks to all and a HUGE thanks to the oracle of the big D, striper king and holder of all the striper knowledge that any one brain can hold, MU FISH. Hope to see y'all out tomorrow, give me a shout on channel 17 or look for an old white and orange Grady White. Chuckles
Heading out in the am with 3 from my new job who've neve fished the big d before. Got a cooler of fresh clams and launching from Chester. Going to head south first and maybe back to cheddar island if need be.
Don't have a radio but if anybody wants my cell # for a live update or a tow, shoot me a pm and its yours.
Hi guys, been lurking for a while. We will be hitting the Delaware for the first time this Sunday. I read through this whole thread and plan on fishing just north of CBB. From what I've read here blood worms are out. I'm planning on bunker and clams and have been thinking about eels. Any reason why I haven't read about anyone using them?
On the water by 930 this morning. Went down past Ollman's and it was a ghost town. Got checked by the police boat and he told us that things just shut off a few days ago. Lots of small fish on the finder but only hooked a small one and a few cats. Went north to cheddar island and tried both sides with nothing. Went north to the other island and found some really nice cats and some really big eels. Thought about using them for bait but they were probably too big for a striper to even hit. Not too many boats out but man, it was a beautiful day to be on the water! Till next time...
Fished the mouth of the Rancoccas today from 1pm-6pm... Not much of anything was going on, worked bunker and clams and brought up a couple of cats. There were plenty of boats in the water, almost stacked up, there was plenty of fishing, hardly any catching... Good luck out there!!
Hey guys... Thinking about tring it out tomorrow... could anyone tell me if the docks are in at the CBB?? Going it alone and cant do it myself without the docks.
Docks are in at CBB. Launched from there last Sunday.
