I don't mind the license as long as it goes to pay for fisheries management. I agree it won't stop all poachers but at least it's one more violation and does help the police go after them. I'm as frustrated as everyone else about the lack of attention to poaching problems and while this won't come close to stopping it I think even if it helps a little bit it's worth it. Confiscating fishing equipment of poachers would be great!

Since licensing is apparently already federally mandated, the question really is this, should the states step up and run their own licensing program, or should they hold out beyond the allotted time period and let the federal government take over and run it within the state?

Unless I'm missing something, that is the really issue on the table. We're going to get stuck with a saltwater license one way or the other, that, it appears, is inevitable.

Whooooooooooo!

Wait, shouldn't it be up to the people? Oh wait, das right...we don't live in a true democracy, we live a in REPUBLIC! "They" call it a democracy, but it ain't. "They" would rather have you think it is true, but it ain't. They tell you it is so you'll support their wars, taxes and laws. Like they "rally the troops", they need to "rally the peeps". "Get behind us while we spread democracy around the globe." Well they can't even get it right HERE first! The people have lost control, the republic is in disarray by way of an out of control guv'ment and wealthy business men who believe they make the best representatives (highly untrue). I would rather a scientist, engineer, philosopher etc represent us. Not the rich wealthy white business man. They have SHORT ARMS 'n DEEP POCKETS. It's outta control, and this license would just be another prime example.

I won't pay. I won't pay. I won't pay! Whoooohoooohoooooo

...nice post jon....i like the top "obey" pic. honestly though..i dont think it matters anymore..republican, democrat, independant..blah..blah..blah.. there is no politician on this earth that can or will put things back in order...the way it used to be when people were held accountable for thier actions...laws were enforced...people were loyal and earned everything they had. i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but its only going to get worse.

In my opinion it's just another tax on the working/fishing public. If paying for a licence would give us the recreational fisherman a bigger voice in government concerning, for example, making stripers a game fish it could be worth the 20 bucks or so but since I can't see that happening I just feel it's another way to squeeze the little guys.

No sense in wasting breath over it. We will have to make the best of a bad situation. I personally think it could get ugly as anglers and fishermen will try and impose thier taxpaying authority on the masses who they assume do not have a licence. ~ ie; wheres your licence yuri? or where's your licence paco? this kind of (i don;t think you deserve to fish if you do not have a licence kind of mentality will assuredly rear it;s ugly head as (now i am paying and they are not?) in the immortal words of Bud Abbott ~ "now wait a minute lou!!

Hi Zim:

Very interesting topic....yes I agree. The gear shifting that would take place in people's minds and their accpetance of this further type of regulation could more deeply create rifts between the dedicated and experienced anglers versus the "weekend drivers".

Would like to know more of your thoughts....if you would

ARNIE

P.S. Any thoughts about surfin' today at Robert Moses?

You just gave me an idea. Ill make up a few hundred INS tshirts and sell them at gateway. Deputize a few ballzy rednecks with a tin badge. Its not like the authorities check anyone. Maybe then i can go in and fish the bouys again in this lifetime. I think they might pass on the fishing rather than the thought of a free trip home. I never considered myself a racist but to be Frank I dont even care anymore who thinks what of me. Im equal oportunity I dislike them all. If they got here legal great. Ill help them spool up.
