Well.....we nailed it today and beat our all time high adding 88 fish to our yearly total. This morning N of the Poughkeepsie bridge was a feeding frenzy from 6am to 9 am. When the bite shut off as quick as it started we hit the east shore by IBM on the ebb tide and smoked em. All fish between 20-33". The end of incoming to early outgoing was the best bite. The water temp went from 61.5 to 66.4 then back down to 62.7 tonight. This is why e bite was so aggressive.

Fished 4:30-9 AM plenty of herring , one missed run & a fish that broke me off near the rocks. Fished again 4:30-7:45 PM , only managed 3 herring scapping the whole time, one run & drop and something else fooling with one that killed the herring, probably a big channel cat.... Talked to a boater who fished 1-6 PM and got 3 stripers. Slow on herring for everyone and guys fishing with bloods said it was slow as well. Back out tmrw morning.

Newburgh has screens with nice hooks but they’re sure lock jawed doing their thing right now. Drifted 6-8pm 3x Dennings to radio tower with only a 20” & 27”.

Today was certainly not as easy as yesterday as it took some time to find the stripers and they were not bunched up in schools but when we figured out where they were traveling we picked away at them and ended up with 44 for the day. They were not in the same place as yesterday as they have begun their southern travels so now they can be found in the channel and western shores. We drifted the west side of the channel from Milton all the way down to the Power plant south of White's Marina and picked them off every 15 minutes. They were very aggressive on the hit peeling line no matter what size they were. We ended up with fish from 20 to 39 inches. Today because they were traveling south so fast the sonar looked more like straight lines than arches when they are not swimming fast. Their was no bite on the am incoming tide and all were caught on the outgoing until it switched for the evening when they did bite on incoming. Water temps today was 62.7 degrees. Many of the guys who normally fish Newburgh Bay came north to us as there was scant fish and no bite there. I'm sure these northern fish will hold over in the Bay for a few days so the fishing there should improve real soon.

Fished 3:30-9 AM, netted my herring limit, one run & drop as well as a 23" white cat. My friend went out with some guys drifting live, bloods and artificials near the Esopus Lighthouse and only got 2 30-31"ers. Only marking a few here & there, and apparently none of the other boaters were having much luck.

We got a late start today around noon but still did well with 29 for the day up to 36" between Trap Rock and IBM from the end of ebb into flood tide. Unlike last night where the fish were running south all of today's fish were on the east side running north into the current. They were extremely aggressive on the hit.....esp the 29-30" males. We saw lots of spawning. Water temps got up to 64.7. We caught a few up to midnight. Back out at 5 am. There is at least 2 more good weeks of fishing.

Glade to hear that. I will be out Friday evening and most of the weekend. Do you think the fish will still be north of the crusher this weekend or moving further south into Newburgh. Last year I believe they were in the channel by the end of May.

Fishing was tough today but we still managed to get 26. The first wave that came up early is moving out but there are plenty left up north that still need to come south. North of the NBB to the Poughkeepsie bridge was quite barren. We found fish between the tanks down into Cornwall. The west wall just south if the Yacht club was completely stacked with striper that had no interest in feeding. Most of our fish today were small between 15-28". Water temps are shooting up and hit 68 but back down to 63 tonight. Back out early am to do some scouting up north.

Anything from the pasty to the troy dam? Just wonder if it’s worth going out one last time or put the old river boat to bed

Another day of tough fishing....we covered from Cornwall to Black creek.......about 40 miles. Cornwall and Newburgh were slow but we got 3......moved up to the power plant across and got another. We checked Marlboro to Poughkeepsie which was dry the headed up to Black Creek which was absolutely loaded with cows sitting on the bottom but they were more interested in coming up to spawn than feed. We ended up with 3 more for a total of 7. The good news is that there are a ton of fish that will be coming down so Poughkeepsie to Newburgh should get some more action soon. Water temp went up to 68 today and back down to 64 tonight. We ars still out fishing but a new day began at midnight........in Poughkeepsie now with lots of schools coming by but the night bite on worms is tough due to poor visibility and we have not had any takers on our eels.

Fished 1-8pm from Poughkeepsie down to White's. 2 small fish and a few schools here and there. We did see a lot more fish on the bottom. Trying Newburgh today. Possibly out on Sunday or Monday and then it's off to the sound for the rest of the year.

Doc, we heard some chatter on the radio about a 3hr struggle for the state record. What came out of that?

Had the pleasure of going out this morning with 2 old highschool friends that I haven't seen in 30+ years I think....boated 11 fish up to 33" - 14 lbs drifting the west side of the channel from Marlboro north about 1/2 way up to Poughkeepsie. Great day on the river, especially when friends catch a bunch of fish!

The overnight and early morning bits was not so good on oir overnight drift from Poughkeepsie down to Marlboro but they turned on around 9am in Marlboro bay anf north on the west shore. We ended up with 15 up to 31"/13lbs but many smaller ones too. We finally marked some thick schools in Marlboro bay but they were mostly 1-2 year olds with bigger fish underneath. They were also great bait stealers. Engine trouble kept us from taking advantage of the bite for most of the day. My thermostat housing cracked and was leaking water so I drove all the way back to Albany to grab 2 spares which were also brittle and cracked. Thankfully a buddy has a race car shop nearby so I ran it up to him for some welding repair which should hold until I get new ones. The evening bite was good right in front of West Shore Marina but died at dusk. Reports from Newburgh were that south of Bannermans Island was in fire. Gonna get a few hours of sleep since I didn't last night and get out before sunrise. Water temp was again up to 67.8 which is why these fish are in a hurry to leave. This is the time of the run when you can do well if you are in the right place when the exiting fish pass through and feed. We still saw some spawning last night.
