Default Opnion on Fishing Tackle Configuration

Would you use the following gear configuration to fish for striped bass or bluefish? Straight monofiliment line without a wire leader tied directly to a tebble hook with a live mackerel as bait. I'm fishing a balloon bobber at a depth of 8 to 10 off the Merrimack River in Massachusetts. The area I'm fishing is a hump in about 150 ft. of water with a drop off to 200+ ft.

Is someone was fishing this type of gear configuration, would it be for stripers or bluefish?

Hi Chris.

Mono would be for bass I expect. blues are toothy critters that will even mangle the wire rigs. You can catch blues on mono if you nail em in the corner of the mouth and give them no slack. Otherwise they will bite right through even heavy mono. The treble and the mono is generally a tactic I've seen used on livelining for stripers. Cut one tine off and leave one exposed.
