It takes a while to learn the river and it?s hazards especially if you have never fished the river north of Hartford. From the Enfield Dam downstream to Windsor the river is full of rocks and swift currents that can be treacherous for anglers without the proper equipment and experience.

If you can fish with someone that has river experience, knows the channels and its boat launches, jump on the opportunity. Many anglers have gone to Jet Drive propulsion to eliminate propellers and loosing lower units to the rocks and logs in the upper river.

Bank anglers know where to stand and the holes that are in reach of shore casters.

Long nets, and lots of casts are necessary to be successful in the Enfield section of the river.

In the past anglers used live herring to catch Stripers on almost every cast. With the ban on using the live river herring, big shiners can be used. Six to eight inch crankbaits, large Sluggos and Finfish are good lures.

In the river South of Hartford, Sandworms, Bloodworms and live Shiners will also work well. This spring run should last into the month of June.
