Default Joppa Flats and jetties

Thinking of hitting the flats this eve to catch the outgoing, would ya put a boat in the river today? I live about an hour away so I really have no idea what the surf or mouth looks like after what just came through.

GO PATS!!!!

I think I'll be out there myself tonight. Shouldn't be a problem on Joppa, maybe a little windy. The mouth should still be a little rough as the sea haven't completely settled down yet. The out going in the mouth of the Merrimac is usually a little rough anyhow so inside might be the best bet tonight (as far a safety is concerned). If you do venture into the mouth tonight watch those waves and wind. Stay clear of the jettiess. Good luck

Between the wife, the weather and my friend who is completely spineless It dosent look good for me tonight. I had a window for Sat or eve Sunday and I got screwed out of both. I will be out this week even if I have to bang out of work. Good luck Rockfishchef. Let us know how you do. I'm thinking Tues or Wed night.

Rest assure you didn't miss much. It was pritty quite last night on joppa. The mouth had some 4ft slow rollers for waves so I only fishuntil it got dark. After dark it was hardto see the swells coming and between keeping an eye on the wind and both the jetties it didn't leave much time to fish. Only a few bites anyhow. Got in side on joppa about 9:00 and the bait fish were jumping but the stripers wouldn't touch a thing. I tried live eels and a variety of plugs fished till 1:00am not a single fish.......................

Oh ya, when I was heading out last night I saw 6 seals. 2 inside around joppa flats and 4 more right in the mouth. Not the same one over and over I could see them at seperate times all surfaced. Those dam things are killing the fishing. At least that what I'm telling myself. I've never seen so many in all the years fishing this area. They stuck around too. I could hear them poping up grunting half the night on joppa.

The seals started showing up in the river several weeks ago. They are going to be around pretty much from now until the end of next spring. There #'s in the river are only going to increase from here on out.

I could send down some seal food. It either comes in 55 grains or 1 7/8 oz. I would recommend the latter for Joppa. P.S. I also have a recipe for flipper pie.
