Default My friend Tom passed away this morning.

My friend Tom passed away this morning. He spent the last few years in a SI nursing home being cared for by nurses from a stroke he suffered 5 years ago. His brother John and his mom both died within the last three months.
I just got the call from my best friend Joe. The only brother left. It was a year to the day since his house burned down. April 19th.
My other buddy tito's birthday.
I thought i was numb when Johnny died but It hurts to think about it.

One story about Tom. He was a die hard yankee fan who swore he would never set foot in Shea stadium. Me, being a die hard Met fan won a bet with him in the bar over a game. The terms were whoever lost had to go to a game at Yankee stadium or Shea. The whole drive to Shea he railed about the Mets, the organization, their broadcasters, GM, everybody. In particular Bob Murphy who at the time did the radio broadcasts. "And now for the happy recap"
Anyway we had tickets for the diamond club so we took the elevator upstairs to get a few drinks. Who's in the elevator but Bob Murphy. I say to bob, "Hey Bob. I'd like you to meet your biggest fan. Tom Lavelle. staten island . Yankee fan but he thinks your the best broadcaster on the planet".
Tom nearly sh*t himself. Bob Murphy was the nicest most gracious man.
After the encounter he laughed and called me some names. He wasnt so down on the guy after meeting him in person. He said he didnt realize how frail Murph was.

Anyway "Put it in the Books" The Mets win. The Mets win.
Rest in peace Tom.

I'm with ya Jim. I too lost a good friend Jim Larson yesterday due to cancer. He was 72 and one heck of a fisherman.

Thanks Guys glad the ordeal is over. My condolences to your friend as well Mark. It sucks to lose a close friend.
I've lost too many this past year.
