Millerton Lake -- The water level is dropping. People are still catching a few stripers and American shad up the river from the logjam to the headwaters. The American shad are averaging about 2 pounds; the stripers are averaging 8, to 15 pounds. Most stripers are being caught in the evenings or the very early morning. Fishing on the main lake is spotty. The topwater bite is good before sunrise. Most people are using plastic worms at 15 to 25 feet deep
