Default Quick Striper Tale

Whipping out 20 lb test monofilament with a phat 6 inch plug on the end, skirtin that bad boy across the surface as it cuts through the Alka-Seltzer surf, the sun disappearing into a melon colored sky to the west. Suddenly the lure disappears as if falling into a black hole; the explosion of the submarine on the end is quickly telegraphed to your arm as the rod bend in half like it's hinged at the knee. In the blink of an eye, five yards of line is stripped of your spin casting reel before you even have time to realize this: Fish On!!! Within seconds, line is screaming off the real, the waves crashing around your knees, salt spray in your eyes, your quarry not letting up. You arch your back and send the rod tip up and then reel in like hell as you dip the rod back down to the horizon. You look like an ironworker pounding rivets with a 30 pound hammer as you continue this dance, tip up, reel on the way back down. This goes on forever, the sky around you turning sinister and inky as the last vestiges of light flee to safety in the horizon's crease. You sense you're making progress now, the endgame is near. There! A flash of the tail--it's a Striper, the fan slapping the water, reminding you of a mermaid. You're shaking; the adrenalin is killing your smooth hand.

You're able to maneuver the fish alongside your thigh; you know what it's like to parallel park a tugboat now...you're rewarded with the first glimpse of your fish, longer than your arm, creamy white with several racing stripes down the side. Beautiful. The fight's not over, she continues to thrash and churn the water, but you get you chance. You dive your hand down into its mouth, careful to avoid the stainless treble hooks waiting to impale you. And then you lock her in, lifting her out of the surf, triumphant, NE style.
