South Shore Classic Surf Fishing Tournament to be held

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that the 200 South Shore Classic (Bluefish & Striped Bass) Surf Fishing Tournament will be conducted from noon on Friday, October 17, to noon on Sunday, October 19 2008

This tournament is sponsored by the Long Island State Park Region, The Fisherman Magazine and Captree Bait, Tackle and Fuel. This year's corporate contributors include Marine Max, Frabill, Hi-Seas, Evolution, Vision Hooks & Tackle, Okuma, Thule, Mercury, Tsunami, Global Fish Mounts, St. Croix, Lamiglas and Bronco Bags.

Each participant must have an entry permit. All fish must be hooked and landed from the beach, surf, jetty, bank or pier within the legal boundaries of the Jones and Moriches Inlets. All fish must be weighed in and recorded by noon on Sunday, October 19 at Captree Bait, Tackle and Fuel located in Captree State Park or by noon at Jones Beach Bait and Tackle located at Field 10 in Jones Beach State Park. Weigh-in hours are around the clock starting at noon on Friday, October 17 until noon Sunday, October 19.

Minimum qualifying weight size is Blue fish - five pounds and Striped Bass - 36 inches. Tournament entry fee is $15 per participant with check payable to NHT - LI. There will be an awards ceremony on Sunday, October 21, 1 p.m. A cash prize of $750 will be given to the first place winners in each category (Bluefish and Striped Bass) and second through fifth place winners in each category will receive tackle equipment. In case of ties, the earliest recorded fish takes precedence. There is one prize per person, per species. You may request an application by writing to South Shore Classic, P.O.
