Default high voltage

I have a 86 Evinrude 75 HP and my fish finder was reading 16.9volts before it stopped working. Is the most common a voltage regulator or rectifier? Dont want to loose anymore electronics at low speeds it is 13.8 volts.

no... the voltage regulator is bad.. normal volatage at 3500 RPM's should be 13.6 - 14.2 volts

A rectifier changes AC current to DC current, if the rectifier is bad, the system wont charge.... systems that dont have regulator controled systems have the control built into the stator. You will have to see if the system has an external regulator, if it doesnt, the stator is the problem.
