Default WWE's Guerrero found dead in Minneapolis hotel room

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Eduardo Gory Guerrero was found dead in his hotel room Sunday morning in Minneapolis, where he was scheduled to appear that evening in a WWE Supershow.
When Guerrero, 38, didn't respond to a wake-up call, hotel security at Minneapolis Marriott City Center and Guerrero's nephew and fellow WWE wrestler, Chavo Guerrero, forced entry into the room shortly after 7 a.m., police said.
The 5-8, 220-pound wrestler was found on the floor. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
There were no apparent signs of foul play or suicide, police said. An autopsy was planned at the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.
He was a featured star on the UPN series WWE Smackdown! and son of Mexican wrestler Gory Guerrero.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie, and daughters Shaul, 14; Sherilyn, 9; and Kaylie Marie, 3, according to WWE Web site.
"This is a huge loss," said WWE chairman Vince McMahon. "Eddie was a wonderful, fun-loving human being. Eddie was a consummate performer."
Chavo Guerrero and McMahon said Guerrero was open about his past drug and alcohol abuse but they said he'd been sober for four years.
Guerrero was in the Twin Cities with 60 to 80 other wrestlers to film Friday Night Smackdown at the Target Center.
"I know Eddie would want the show to go on," Chavo Guerrero said.
In February 2004, Guerrero became the second wrestler of Hispanic heritage to be WWE champion when he defeated Brock Lesnar, a former University of Minnesota wrestling standout. Guerrero lost the title four months later.
In May 2004, UPN aired the special Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story. The one-hour program chronicled his childhood and his struggle with drug addiction that almost cost him his job, family and life before his recovery and eventual capture of the WWE championship.
Guerrero grew up in El Paso, Texas. He and his three older brothers were all wrestlers.

Dusty Rhodes remembers Eddie

Eddie seemed a little tired at SummerSlam in August when I saw him at the MCI Arena in Washington, D.C. But when our eyes locked he immediately had an ear-to-ear grin on his face and we embraced like long lost brothers. I guess in a way we were brothers ? of the wrestling business. I kidded him about stealing the show at SummerSlam and how that might not sit well with those that had to follow ?Latino Heat.? He smiled that mischievous smile of his that we all grew to love because that was exactly what Eddie had on his mind. I wished him good luck and told him how excited I was to be able to sit and watch his match just like a regular fan. We hugged for a few moments but not nearly long enough ? as I realized when the news of my friend?s death reached me early Sunday morning.

Eddie, I am sorry I could not be a part of your tribute on Monday Night RAW. But you know my heart was there and you know that I will never forget you or what you have meant to me. You once told my wife that I saved your life. I don?t know about that, but I do know this: You definitely made my life better by me simply knowing you. Eddie, you constantly reminded me that ?respect? is still the top priority for being a wrestler ? even though it doesn?t always seem that way to everyone in this generation. I hope the young wrestlers in this business continue to look to you for inspiration and guidance. You were a wonderful inspiration to me and to so many others ? not only as a wrestler but as a husband, father, brother and friend.
I want to smile as I remember you now because I am weary from crying. Goodbye ?Uncle Eddie,? until we see each other again. ?Jim Ross

I heard about that last week. Too bad. I used to watch wrestling when I was a kid, then started watching it again around 96 when the nWo formed in WCW starting with The Outsiders, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, then "Hollywood" Hul Hogan. It was entertaining to see them come out and beat up all the WCW doods lol. Eddie was good in WCW, but I never liked WWF after I was about 12 lol, so I dont know much of what he did there after leaving tha Dubya-C-Dubya.

Seems to be a very common thing with wrestlers...being found dead in the AM inside their hotel room. "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig was found that way 2 years ago, along with scores of others. His best friend "Ravishing" Rick Rude died in '99. Rick Rude was the man, that dude had forearms bigger than his wifes head. Ray "Big Bossman" Traylor died last year.

Once some of these wrestlers hit their 40's, they seem to drop in record numbers.

I wondered what happened to Big Dick Dudley. (Alex Ricco) Him and i and a few others got drunk before an ECW match in the Sportsfest (Rabs bowling alley bar) in Staten Island some years ago. He was a cool dude. Bubba Ray and Devon were supposed to perform that night. So me, Dick and Chronus got blasted on Tequila shots and beers. The Sand man and a few other guys were also in the bar.
The hooter girls were hanging out with us.
Alex (big Dick) grabs a hooter girl by the arm and says "sit on my lap sweetheart".
She says "no thank You thats OK"
Dudley says. "Whats a matter you dont like Big Dick"?
We all cracked up laughin.
Long story short. Dick dudleys in the ring for the main event in a three man tag match. I cant believe it as im chit faced and i know he's wasted. The match goes on and fans are screaming at big dick. I dont remember who or what or why but the next thing you know big Dick is chasing some fan outside the ring. Chairs are flattened people are screaming and apparantly he caught this kid a block away from the arena. The next morning the SI advance prints a story about a wrestler arrested for assault at the sportsfest. Thats the last I seen or heard from Alex Ricco aka Big Dick Dudley. I just assumed he was disciplined by ECW and that was that. Too bad. He seemed like a fun guy with a temper.
RIP Big Dick Dudley

Great link JB. It has over 40 wrestlers who died after a match.
And Alex's name was Rizzo not Ricco as I stated above.
Louie Spicolli. lol

Ya, I thought Liz was murdered by Lex too, but they never had proof of chit last I heard. They ended up saying it was an overdose of some sort. I remember reading stories on the net, and it seemed awful friggin fishy LOL.

Thats awesome man, I remember all the Dudleys, they came to the Hampton Beach Casino with ECW a few times. I went to one of em with 9 friends, and we all wore nWo shirts LMFAO. Looked like a gang. Anyway, during the Dudleys match, Big Dick and Sign Guy Dudley were in the crowd next to a HUUUUUGE guy from Hampton named Brian Day......and while the D-Von and Bubba Ray Dudley fought in the ring, the other Dudleys were heckling Brian. Turns out Brian Day had been talking wrestling classes for a few years and was looking to get in the game. This guy has Terminator arms lol, and he's a black belt in some martial arts and all that crap. He is friends with John Cena, and I remember seeing Cena in Labec Rouge partying on several occassions during a few Summers down at Hampton Beach. Anyhow, Brian Day ended up standing up while Bubba Ray came down out of the ring, and they screaming and yelling and spitting in each others face. it was a riot. I was at that ECW event to see Psycho Sid aka Sid Vicious, but he wasnt at that show.

Friggin A, I remember Louis Spicolli's short stint in Dubya-C-Dubya with Scott Hall, and that Larry Zbysco fued. Thats crazy. I remember before one of the Monday Nitro's, I heard the bell dinging before they started the show, and it said in memory of Louis Spicolli. Thats how I found out he died.

The Outsiders, Hall N Nash, were always my favorite. Once they ruined the nWo and ECW fell apart, I stopped watching that crap. But I did tune into a WWE Raw show a few months ago, and I saw John Cena's new music video lol....it had a bunch of shots of him and his buddies walking the front strip down at the beach. Good ol' Hampton Beach......my hometown seems to attract all the coolness, let me tell ya!

Almost time to play poker. I'm off to Jay's now. Say a prayer for Brandon, Steve, and Jay LMFAO.

ELIZABETH HULETTE Died May 1, 2003
The world of Pro Wrestling lost one of it most beloved members. Elizabeth Hulette died of as yet undisclosed causes at age 42. Hulette was known in the Wrestling world as ?Miss Elizabeth.? Hulette was at the home of wrestler Lex Luger (Larry Pfohl) in Georgia when a 911 call was placed for medical assistance. Pfohl was questioned by police and released. Ms. Hulette appeared in over 30 WWF and WCW videos between 1984 and 1999.
An autopsy ruled it as an overdose. They searched his house a week later and arrested him for steroids. He posted bail and was released.
