Default Finally on a bucktail

I got my first bucktails four years ago didn't catch any bass on them so they sat in my bag. I would take one out every now and again but nothing. A friend of mine here on the Island who is a bucktail Jedi master has shown me how to properly use them.

last week I got five keeper fish on the bucktail mostly this size one larger.

I am now a believer in the all mighty bucktail.

Awesome fish Khary......what's your secret to using them? I've tried them before but with no luck. I'd just cast out and bounce them off the bottom but nothing seemd to work. Glad you got such a nice fish on them though......

Thanks man.

What I was taught is to look for current when using them. Cast up current and let it the water do the work. I used a straight retrieve with occasional twitches keeping it just off the bottom.

Another Bucktail convert! Nice catch!
I only tossed one a few times off The Jetty in A.C. on Memorial Day weekend.
Where were you, on a boat, in the sound, Jamaica Bight? Did you tip it off?
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks Jim wish I had a pic of the bigger one. When are you going to make a trip out here?

irenegade,

I'm living on Shelter Island for the summer the fish were all caught off the beach.
Pork rind trailer.

I got a job bartending out here in 2004. In 2005 I decided to go back to school so now my summers are free. This summer I'm working with a guy doing the bright work on boats, and bartending at two places.

Wow good deal Khary. Getting school out of the way AND spending your summer wisely. I was just across the way from ya in Greenport a few weeks ago, stopped at Claudio's on a friend's boat. What a nice area, would love to spend alot more time there.

Cooll let me know when. The surf fishing has slowed down with the warmer water, but we still might be able to pull something.
