Default Line?

I know there are many opinions on this...but,here goes. What would be a good line for mating with a Shimano 6500B(bait runner)?

Pretty much any of the braids

Suffix
Tuffline XP
Cortland
Stren Superbraid (I use this one a lot)
I would go with whichever is cheapest or on sale

I hate PowerPro
Fireline is better on older style reels

Yup

I've gotten away from mono, haven't fished it in at least 5 years so I wouldn't be the guy to ask.
When I did use it I pretty much stuck with 17# Silver Thread copolymer

For mono.. Ande or Trilene big game... everything else is sub standard unless you spend the big money for jenkai...

Trilene Trilene Trilene.

I love the Berkley Trilene for Mono no matter the test. I have really come to like the XL line (soft casting)

I don't really have the means to test the break point of the big game mono, but the 12lb XL breaks at about 20 lb! and stretches like I have never seen.

Low memory, cast for about a mile and a half. When I spin fish poppers on light gear for stripers and blues in the bay (when I'm expecting fish about 30" or under) I use the 12lb mono.... of course set the drag, but still great line.

Cortland braid has been nice to me too. Of course the folks at Cortland have always treated me well, and I stick with their stuff when it's practical.

I like Fireline on spinners, as well. Check your spool capacity on those bigger reels. You want to have enough backing, along with the line to fill up the spool.

Gave the fireline chrystal a shot last week and boy was I dissapointed. Thick, I don't know if I just got a bad batch but I got more windknots in 2 days than I did all of last season with PPro... Back to PPro #30

I bought Yo-Zuri Hybrid two years ago and I am still buying it. I tried
braid last year surf casting cut two fingers on my spin gear went back
to Yo-Zuri.I must say though that braid casts to places i was not familar
with, with mono. I will still keep the braid on the 209's for fluke and blackfishing on the bottem. I don't see the need for braid for striper fishing.
