Default hudson spring first time what to do?

I will be fishing the hudson, right in the pieremont/Tappan zee area..... in the spring from my bros boat. for stripers.....
It is my first time fishing here I usaully fish in NYC staten island rockaway etc. Question is...I am clueless on..what to do??? LOL!!!

1. If using fresh bait, can I use bunker chunks, salted clams in this area?...if not what do I use? what baitfish runs here in the spring?
2. Drop sinker to the bottom and drift the boat?
3. any lure suggestions for this area?
4. where is a good bait and tackle shop in pierrmont?

any and all advice and suggestions will be appreciated thanks!

i would use a three way swivel with a 4 or 5 oz sinker pending on the current
ive had good luck with live herring or even fresh chunk shad
just keep a eye out on the new regulations ok good luck

Early spring use bloodworms Phil. Herring if you can get it.
Bunker chunks, eels, clams and sand worms close it out as live baits.
The guys that fish the flats north of there in early May before the spawn use minnow type herring imitators. Jointed lures. The trollers use bigger plugs.

hey, as being one of the younger anglers out there (im only 20), i love goin for stripers in the spring. I fish the Cornwall on Hudson/Newburgh area from shore. I use mostly blood worms, and chunk herring, i get most of my stripers on blood worms...but im not the best at tellin on wut to use, ill keep that to the more expericenced guys. Any of u other guys got other suggestions what to use from shore...i usually use 20LB test, with 3 oz sinker and fishfinder(?) swivel..(the one that slides on ur liter)

from shore I use the fishfinder here in the NY Bight area, I dont think it would be any different from the shore where you are either.... we use the 3 way swivel when drifting the bottom in a boat.....do you know where there is a good bait shop by the tappan zee bridge area to get that fresh chunked herring?

The three way is a good bait rig for fast moving water. When the tide is halfway out the current usually is ripping, thats the time to tie on a three way and fillet the chunk in such a way as it will flutter in the current
Make 4 or 5 vertical slivers slices and tie a heavy sinker on the front end.
Present the bait like its glistening and fluttering. Make sure your sand spike is secure.

While you waiting toss out a darter.

lol I use herring and shad chunks cut 2 to 3 inches wide some times i use a whole half of a dead herring ...if you want to get a quick bite when times seem slow biting take a live herring and put a couple thin slices on his body bye the tail fin it helps with realeasing the scent more.....the down side is they dont last long doing this plus you have to watch out for those toothy critters ...the old bigger stripers like the crippled herring hence the slicing I HOPE THIS HELPS THIS ALSO IS GOOD WHEN FISHING IN MUDDY WATER

The best advice I can give is to fish further south. Contrary to what you may read here, stripers do not enter the Hudson EVER!!

Just my feeble attempt at humor. In reality, it's good for us to have another Hudson River fisherman in the fold. There's strength in numbers.
