What size mono would be best?

Hello Everyone,
I am hoping someone on the board could help me out with a question I have about the size mono line I should use. I fish off party boats out of Captree. I have a 6'6" Shakespere M-Heavy Strudy stick I am looking to outfit with a new reel. I am planning on buying a Shimano Charter Special TR-2000LD. It's rated to take 300yrds of 20# test.
I would like to know if 20lb test is strong enough? Could I put 30lb Berkley Trilene Big Game Mono on the reel? It will mostly be used to drift clams & fish with eels. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out. Good Luck out there this weekend!

Before the days of braid what boat fishing I did was pretty much exclusively using 20# Andee.
