i curently have an 8 foot ugly stik but can only cast about 100 yards with it. id like to get something 10 feet long but i need help picking one out. my reel has 40lb braid and i want to use mackerel with it. also, can you exceed the line and bait capacity ratings and still be able to cast well?
Just a suggestion, Ugly stick makes a 10' dipsey diver rod. This thing will handle a large dipsey for trolling. Why not a conventional reel and a heavy weight for casting? I know a striper fisherman that uses them for sweetwater striper fishing with live bait. He claims when hooked it whips a striper in no time. Has caught them up to 40+lbs. Just a thought.

100 yards is a heck of a cast on an 8' ugly stick.
