Spinning = guides down
Conventional = guides up
Any other way will earn you some strange looks and probably a bit of abuse (mostly behind your back)
There are reasons for where the guides are supposed to be - a rod has whats called a spine. Spinning and Conventional rods are built with the guides on a specific side of that spine - turning it upside down defeats the purpose.
