Default Aquarium Proposed For Lower Manhattan

January 09, 2006

There's been plenty of debate over plans for the World Trade Center site, and now comes word that marine life could be coming ashore on Manhattan's Lower West Side.
City Fish is the name of the new aquarium proposed for a vacant spot between the West Side Highway and Hudson River, just north of the World Trade Center Site.
The River Project group has applied for a grant from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation.
The aquarium would showcase marine life from the New York Harbor, like striped bass, sea horses, crabs and shrimp.
City Fish will be an environmentally friendly outdoor museum, with a 40-thousand-gallon fish tank.
The hope is that the aquarium will be up-and-running by early July.

That is really awesome! The aquarium in Brooklyn has a showcase of some beautiful bass, and other fishies like different shads that live in the Hudson.

Suds the proposed Jet property was the railyards further north at 11th and 33rd street. closer to the Lincoln tunnell entrance.

Interestingly in April 2002, the TWU joined a lawsuit with the Straphanger's Campaign and other groups against the MTA, after the agency sought to sell the giant railyards to the Jets for $250 million. The suit said the deal shortchanged transit riders and workers since an MTA appraisal had pegged the value of the site at a whopping $923 million.
Bloomberg's push to build the billion-dollar stadium was one of the key reasons that the city's construction unions rallied around his reelection. On the other side of the fence, Roger Toussaint's Transport Workers Union Local 100 not only opposed the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's proposal to sell land it owned for the stadium at a below-market price, it also was one of the few unions to back stadium opponent Freddy Ferrer. Bloomberg trounced Ferrer in that election by 20 percent. BTW only 19 of 100 international Olympic board members voted for New York to be the 2012 host city.
Anyway Bloomberg didnt forget that during the recent transit strike.
