ANNUAL HUDSON RIVER STRIPED BASS DERBY

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Federation of Dutchess County Fish and Game Clubs, Inc, the Rotary Club of Poughkeepsie South and the Catskill Rotary Club, in cooperation with the Dutchess County Tourism Promotion Agency and the Greene County Tourism/Promotion Department, Hudson Pontiac Buick GMC, Boating on the Hudson, Ulster Savings Bank, and GE have announced their 16th Annual Hudson River Striped Bass Derby which will be held May 7th and 7th, 2005.
Corporate sponsors for this year's event include: Star Gas Products Inc, KK Signs, Whites Hudson River Marina, Ruge's Oldsmobile - Subaru, the Poughkeepsie Journal, Hudson River Truck & Trailer and Clear Channel Communications. The derby will be held rain orfishine and is open to any person 12 years old or older, however, everyone between the ages of 12 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Fishing is allowed from either boat orfishore between the George Washing-ton Bridge and the barrier dam at Troy. If competing from a boat all occupants 12 or older must be entered in the derby. It is the responsibility of the Captain of all entered boats to determine if weather and river conditions are safe to fish.
The weigh-in stations will be White's Hudson River Marina in New Hamburg, Dutchess County; Charles Rider Park in the Town of Kingston, Ulster County; and the Freight Building County Park in Catskill, Greene County. All Weigh-in stations will be open from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 7th and from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 8th. All Awards will be presented on Monday May 9th at the River Station, Main Street, Poughkeepsie. The ceremony will take place at 7:00 pm The registration fee for the Derby is $30.Early registrations, before April 15th, are eligible for a drawing of a free mount of any fish caught during the derby by R. Seils Taxidermy of Salt Point. No entries will be accepted after 8:00 pm Friday May 6th. The combined weight of twofish, onefish per day, is used to determine the winners. 1st place is $1,000; 2nd place is $500; 3rd place is $200. 4th through 20th place are awarded $50 each.Bonus awards are: Lunker Award (largestfish from boat,fishore or with a y rod) $50 each day; and a Mother's Day Lunker Award (largest fish caught by a lady on Mother's Day) $50. For those anglers feeling lucky there will be a $10 Calcutta on the largestfish caught during the weekend. The Calcutta is not mandatory. New this year is a $10 50/50 pool for the participants who do not weigh in a fish. The Calcutta and the 50/50 pool are not mandatory. Any fisherman registered in the Mother's Day weekend tournament who manages to break the current inland striped bass record as of 5:00 pm Friday May 6th, pending certication, will become the owner of a 2004 GMC Sierra 4 X 4pickup from Hudson Pontiac Buick GMC Also included is a trailering package from Hudson River Truck and Trailer Sales. This entire package is worth over $25,000.
