Default Heddon Woodpecker

The original Heddon Woodpecker looks like this:

Name:	heddon woodpecker 1.jpg
Views:	146
Size:	19.5 KB

My version looks like this:

Name:	Heddon Woodpecker copy (648 x 486).jpg
Views:	146
Size:	97.1 KB
ID:	5019

This one fought me all the way. I think I threw out 4 blanks for one reason or the other. It was still fighting me last night or I would have posted it then.

I need to find out. I'm not sure how the original swam. I guessed that it's suppose to swim like a popper, so I tail weighted it. The term "Woodpecker" also seems to indicate that it should work like a popper. I still have 3 feet of snow in my back yard and all the lakes up here are still solid. I need to get to the ocean and do some testing. I only made one and won't make more until after testing.

I don't friggin believe this one! For years I have been turning that very same plug, with only minor differances, and even shared my idea with jim4290. I honestly believed that it was a unique plug that I developed about 25 years ago. I never heard of the Woodpecker!
It's a popper/pencil hybrid. If you keep your tip down slightly, and pop it, it throws buckets of water, raise your tip and it dances like a pencil.
JIMMY, DO YOU SEE THIS!
I have 55 of them rigged and ready to go right now.
Jim calls them the "Gunny4290", I named it the "Meredith's merauder", after my youngest daughter. Jim's and mine are slightly differant. I cup out the popper face more than Jim.

That's an extremely clean looking plug there Rick. I'm not going to be spending $500 on a plug anytime soon....or ever.....but yours looks a lot nicer than the original.

Rick, use a fingernail skew, it makes making the head a snap... I made one of those for my contest plug at plugfest two years ago...I'm surprised you didnt see it hanging on the wire when you were at my shop..i

I wish I could have taken in 100% of what you had hanging in your shop. I was in overwhelm mode, and only took in a fraction.. I need to get back there.
