Default rod holder for an suv

Just curious if anyone has made a rod rack for the inside of their truck/suv. My budget is tight so buying a rack is out for now. Pics would be awesome if you have something. Thanks.

I've got a Silverado with a hard cover on a 7' bed, so most of my rods are too long to fit lengthwise without being broken down. I've seen some really nice rooftop carriers, like the Castaway carrier by Thule (shown below). That's on my wishlist

That thule is a really nice rig. I just saw one for $125 shipped either on this site or another. If you want I can find it for you.

Thanks Alex, but it's very low on the priority list right now. Probably one of those things that will remain on the wish list for a long time if you know what I mean

I made my own, came out great (everyone thinks I bought it). Made it out of mountaineering strapping from Eastern Mountain Sports and Velcro. Finished the entire thing while watching a Yankee game.

Since these pictures were taken I've attached a length of square aluminum tube to the rear rack to keep the reels from bouncing around. Wife has the camera in her car right now but I'll take and post a pic as soon as I can

I got a pickup truck with a cap and a portable home built rod hold made of cheap white pine. I can't go with the rod rack atop due to the low clearances in the parking garages at the malls here. Basically I notched out a 3 foot long 1 x 4 board with some short post screwed to one side and #20 biscuit joints for the short legs. I just lean it against the tailgate and angle the 10 foot rods all the way to the front. Then place a cloth bungi chord across the top.

I know what you mean baitrunner. Thank you for the ideas guys. I am going with yours sudsy. I actually thought of velcro right to the headliner but the strapping is awesome. Did you sew the velcro to the strap? I also thought of using cheap white pine but wasnt sure how I was going to mount it. Thanks again guys.

Sewed it using leftover fishing braid (put a drop of Zap a Gap on the knots to keep em from slipping) It's going on 4 years old and is still as good as new.

IMPORTANT - Don't skimp on the velcro - go to the fabric store and buy the best stuff they have. I'd print out the pictures and show em so they comprehend what you're trying to do.
