You ARE going to one of the herring meetings, right???
I hope that everyone here is going to try very hard to attend at least one of the meetings being put on by the DEC on the future of herring use in NY. It is very important that they hear what we have to say, even if they have already made a decision. DEC needs to take into account the fact that our herring run is VERY short in duration and the amount that we use during striper season is miniscule in comparison to what is commercially harvested. The ASMFC's own report supports this. I'm going to the meeting in Delmar. Hope to see some of you there.

Maybe just as importantly have them address the zebra mussel population and plans for eradication.
While at Norrie a few seasons back I happened upon a researcher that was finding an exorbitant amount of zebra mussels.
This species compete with the herring for food. So far they (The DEC) seem to be concentrating on preventing boaters from introducing them rather than finding any way to eliminate them.

Yes that is it. Bring your gun. If you don't get your way then you can open fire. Sounds like a real smart plan to me

You know, I never really thought about that but it makes perfect sense. The river really has cleared up over the past 5 years or so. It's nice for asthetics, but not good for the food chain. And you're absolutely right when you say they are more interested in the prevention of the spread, which makes no sense since they are already established, than in trying to remove them from the equation. Just look at how the gov't is trying to prevent the spread of the flying carp in the great lakes. Instead of doing what needs to be done in closing that shipping lock, they spending millions of taxpayers dollars on a huge bandaid.

Man, you have serious issues. This topic is starting to get derailed so this will be my last reply to you. I said it was a joke. Bringing a gun to a public meeting isn't a joke. Carrying a legally owned handgun to a sportsmen meeting WOULD be ok to me if it wasn't in a town hall, school, etc. No one said we were going to start shooting- that was your idea. You are obviously someone who doesn't believe in personal freedoms or liberties and everything is life or death. It's people like YOU that make this country effed up! Now, if you care to reply to the original topic, great! IF not, go troll somewhere else.
