Who says you need fresh bloodworms lol!
Due to the weather forcast and just buying a new house, didn't think I would get out there this weekend. Then when I saw it was gonna be nice sunday afternoon/evening, I figured I would go out for a few hours....all I had in the fridge were 2 week old bloods. Figured what the hell better to be on the water than home doing shit. When I opened the ziplock they were in, I almost barfed....they were rancid.
Fished from the Marlboro to Poughkeepsie from 4 to 8 tonite. Got a 33" about 5 minutes after putting my lines in...then a few run offs over the next few hours...no hook ups. Then about 10 min before I was gonna head in, hooked into a 39", about 30 pound (from what my cheap ass scale said) fish south of the stack. The drift was taking me towards the rocks so while fighting it (I was alone, 2 people cancelled on me), I had to start the boat and pull away from the rocks. I thought for sure I would lose her...still have not broken the 40" barrier but this is a personal best for me. Got it around 8pm right after DocZ who had been drifting near me for like 45 minutes took off the the center of the river....glad he didnt have to witness the clown show that was me trying to get this thing on the deck alone and not crash into the rocks lol.
On a side note, just closed on a lakefront house on Upper Greenwood Lake in NJ. Finally had the chance to drop a line off my boat dock,...within 10 casts landed about a 2 pound Largemouth on a Jitterbug...a good omen I think....I know what I will be doing in my retirement when that eventually comes. Its like living on the Catskill Game Farm there...geese, ducks, woodpeckers, birds, chipmonsks, rabbits, even a fox that lives on my property and is always hunting in the woods across the road.
All fish safely revived and released of course.....
