Default new to east coast

Hi gang, I've fished on the west coast for over thirty years mainly for striped bass though i've gotten my share of everything else from albies to trout. I'm looking to broaden my horizons and fish montauk point in october and could use some helpful tips, i'll be bringing an 11' spincast/40# braid, a 11'conventional/20#mono to fish the surf and probably an 8-1/2' steelhead rod /10-12#mono to fish the bay throwing rebels/bombers. I watched the decline of bass along our beaches along the san mateo/san francisco coastline throughout the years and have heard alot about the fantastic beach runs in your area. So.. i'll be out in the 2nd week of october from the 4th -the i said i would appreciate any helpful tips on where to go i'm assuming the usual top water lures and metal jigs are the norm and i already got some new waders and korkers.. looking forward to doing alot of catch and release...Thanks ahead Ray

From what you described, and the years behind you, it sounds like you just need the right spot. Don't we all.
Montauk is the tip of Long Island, and the bass pass the tip during the fall run.
So if you are out there at that time, you'll do well. Fish at night, with the outgoing. But I usually do that anywhere I target bass.
Ever been on a crowded subway car? Got the idea.
