quick strike rigs...anyone use them?

been reading a lot about hit and runs with bait and was thinking that a quick strike rig would help solve this problem a little bit any way, just wondering if anyone uses or has used them for stripers

We've used them, but only when anchored and live herring. If you try to use them while drifting you tend to get a lot of hang ups... Check your PM ill let you in on a few tips...

For the curious such as myself can you explain what the quick strike rig is and how it works? I googles it and saw some pictures but I don't understand what makes them so reliable or "quick". I fish live bait off the bottom on fish finder or striper rig, and I'm anchored. Many thanks in advance from an eager student!

the ones i have used have only been ice fishing, but basically it has a hook in the front and a hook towards the back, using larger baits, sometimes dead, it helps hold the bait horizontal, and if an eager fish comes in and hits it, it doesnt really matter if it hits the front or the back either way it is more likely to get hooked, therefore less hit and runs and more hookups

Thanks for the great explanation. Can you rig two live herring say 5-10 feet apart in the water column? So two two three ring swivels or a fish finder rig with two barrels. The first fir the weight at the bottom and a second for another live herring?

I would think they would tangle each other up fairly quickly? try it out and let us know

unless you want to catch the small fish that run for 2 seconds and drop the bait, i see no need for a stinger for stripers.
