another question

im stocking up my tackle box in preperation for the striper season....anyways what does everyone think about using those orange floats to keep your bait of the bottom....i suppose theyll prevent skate from taking your bait but they look so unnatural that its not evn funny...is there any evidence either scientific or from your own experiences that proves that the orange float keeps stripers away? what about attracting stipers? i bought a striped bass fishing book and the author called this cork an "attractor"...thanks

Some people swear by em, others hate em, for me the juries still out. The only time I use a float is when I'm fishing worms and then it's in natural cork. No particular reason, it's just the way I was taught and some habits die hard.

If I'm chucking clams or chunks and I want it off the bottom I use a High Low style rig tied without the bottom hook loop
