I was always a surf fsherman but i stepped it up halfway through last eyar and got in on a boat.. yeah.. thanks for the congrats.. i love it. anwyay. gearing up for a great season on the L.I. sound out of new rochelle i need some advice on a decent rod and a good reel for the boat. all ive got now is 8 or 9 foot rods and spinnign reels.. id liek a conventional baitcaster.. very smooth. my friend swears by a daiwa i think. thats about it. advice please. and of course im fishing for stripers. salt water.. hence sound reference. rocky too. lots of rocks. mostly deadstick bunkers while drifting.. id take some advice there too. although i did start to throw some storm shads and bunkers late last year..
and if someone needs a fiberglass hole patched in their hull i can do it perfectly. years of autobody and surfboard repair and i can do it blind.
oh eyah.. the boats a 1989 19.5 foot sunrunner.. cuddy cabin i guess.. volvo inboard that ran really well last year..

Joey, I use a 7' St croix MH with a Fast taper for just about all of my Striper fishing chunking clamming jigging etc. As far as a reel (the guys on this site are gonna get sick of me saying this) but you can't go wrong with the new Avet Sx reels.
