Re: Science Blog on the Hudson River Zebra mussel
I spoke with a researcher at the Environmental center at Norrie last weekend and she related some interesting and exciting discoveries regarding the zebra mussel population. It is rampant in the river but it seems that blue claw crabs are dining on them en masse. This discovery bodes well for the future of the river and other areas where zebra mussels threaten the habitats of other species. Introduction of blue claw crabs may hold the key to controlling this population. I dont believe their findings have yet been published.
