I would have guessed some sort of ray...I've had large cow nosed rays grab my bait or lure and take off.

As for Ocean Sunfish, those are pretty cool...I'd love to see one from my kayak!

Ocean sun fish are strange.....we used to see them a lot on whale watches when I worked for the New England Aquarium. They are enormous creatures but they just float, they can't swim and all they eat is microorganisms and such. Still pretty cool to see them....it would be amazing from a yak

nice fish!!! we had about a 14ft hammerhead come up and bit like a 60 pound tuna right in half that we were fighting. it was amazing to see. we rigged up for that fish and put the other half of the tuna on and a bluefish we caught earlier. glad we didnt catch it though we were only in a 22 foot boat.
And the thing sticking up out of the water may have been a type of ray. bullnose maybe they do that alot where i am from and they stick both of their fins out of the water so you may have just seen one fish.

The shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 Knots. Just like in JAWS. The boat was taking on water, the Shark would jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the Shark actually drowned.

Absolutely untrue. They can swim very fast when they want to and they often jump clear of the water in the springtime when they are mating. They mainly eat jellyfish. Every year a few are hooked by accident, probably becuase the jelly combs pile up on the shark leaders and they do put up one hell of a fight.

No, I don't work with them. Just pass info. Great info
Nice fish!! I run a 32' Carver Convertible and if that shark started to tow my boat backwards at 7 knots I would have cut that rope!!

Possibly a thrasher shark? I know their back fin is really long and flimsy and its not surprising to see them in the inlet. I was fishing off of belmar beach last year, probably around 100-150 yds off the beach and saw a thrasher shark jump out of the water.
