my friend had some sore of catfish in his tank it was about 1.6 feet long would i be able to get one that sized if i get a 72 gallon tank? or is the fish to big. That would be awsome to raise some floundah or somtin then when there big enought let them loose in the bay :P but like u said saltwater is harder to maintain and do

That fish is too big Mike. You could keep it and nothin else. almost. he would eat his weight in groceries. with fresh its i inch of fish per gallon of water after 5 inches it reduces to 1 inch per five gallons. In salt its much less. If you raise a fish in an aquarium he may get eaten or roughed up in the wild with not being used to other predators. But a cat would probably survive. IMO

lol. no eels fa me. I like em somewhat, but all the ones I ever see just hide in PVC pipe or sumthin with their heads stickin out. Not much excitement. But, I think a Lionfish and an eel would be cool pets.

I think moray eels rock, they are AWESOME, especially when they get really long, round 4 feet..... Then they rock! I see em swimming around in Curacao, where I normally go everywhere. We have a Timeshare there, its awesome..

Right next to Aruba!

LMAO @ Jim.

Friggin A, I had a sudden (or maybe not so sudden) pH drop, from 8.2 to 7.8 it looks like. I have been testing the waters pH, Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates every 3 days. The tanks pH was 8.2 everytime, till today. The test is definitely lighter than before. I did 2 pH tests to make sure. I am going down to Pet City in a little while, I am going take the test I did, the test test card, as well as a test tube filled with my water and see if he can do a test then compare the 2 tubes.

Probably hafta picked up some pH stabilizer.

Jb I dont even check the ph in salt tanks. just the specific gravity. which should be 1.021 to 1.023. You will drive yourself nuts with that ph bull. and screw up the balance. It might be more sensitive with the corals though. I havent tried them cause of the constant attention to balance.

Yeah, figured I wouldnt even worry about it, cuz the Bacter-Vital can sometimes make test results a little "off". For instance, I have to multipy my Ammonia and Nitrite test results by .0009 in order to get the correct reading, and for Nitrate its multiplied by .000912. All of my tests have needed to be multiplied so far, except for today....my Ammonia was already 0 on the test. Today - Ammonia: 0, Nitrite: 0.00018, Nitrate: 0.01368. So everything super low and barely even detectable.

Even with the Bacter-Vital helping to cycle the tank, I could see the Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate spike, all the while having such low levels. I write down all the results, and can clearly see where each spiked, then went back down. Its just my pH seems to have gone down with it lol.

However there is no formula for pH when using Bacter-Vital to cycle, so I found it weird that it had dropped from a consistant 8.2 down to 7.8. Everything seems perfectly fine in the tank. It's the soft corals I was concerned about I guess. I picked up some SeaChem Marine Buffer for the hell of it in case it drops below 7.8. Anything below that is really cause for alarm.

I am going to borrow my friends digi-cam tonight and get some pics!
