Default Looking for some advice for a newbie

I'm currently in the Durham/Freeport area and looking for some advice on spots to fish. I am only 3 miles from 295 so drivings not a major issue. I've tried some striper fishing 2-3 times a few years ago and didn't have much luck/ nor knew what I was doing.

I went and picked up some packs of sluggos and some other stuff like bucktails, sp minnows and some other odds and ends and figured I'll give it a shot this year.

I do quite a bit of freshwater bass fishing so I have some nice gear for that I figured I would used for this. I've got a 7'3 duckett rod, which I figured I'd use for the lighter stuff, and a 7'6" heavy shimano crucial that I would use for stuff up to 1.5 oz. before buying any striper setups. I would be using shimano curado baitcasters most likely with these rods.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Forgot to really mention, I'd like to stick to using lighter stuff for now, before investing in bigger stuff.
