ah , i see what you mean, cast is much more sturdy, than the plate steel. i was figuring i could spend under 150 for something that would do the job, however i know you are right about quality. i am torn, i will need to seriously think about how much cake to spend on a good lathe. well it looks like i am in the market for a good used one? if anyone has any good leads, let me know, thanks, jim.

Default Lathe

I have an old (1938?) Dunlap that I have used over the years for all kinds of projects. I just made my first plug yesterday. Wored great for that. I see them on Ebay for short $$. I also just got a small dunlap metal lathe on ebay (1938?) another great tool that keep chugging along.
