I got the bug
I'm new to surfcasting, but I got the bug. In the spring I fish the Hudson, and thats about it for my striper season. However, this past weekend I was in Maine and decided to try for stripers surfcasting. It was awesome! I'm interested in taking some trips to hook into the fall migration. I have access to Breezy Point and the Jersey shore. Are stripers in these parts now, or all year for that matter. While I have fished the spring run up the Hudson for a few years now my name says it all. I want to learn more about this fish, and I want to expand my striper season. Thanks, schoolieboy.

Re: I got the bug
Getting the bug is the first step and is good. The second step is to do some homework and answer the questions you asked above. They are general questions and can be answered by reading the pages within the forum, specifically the beginners sections. Notice also that there is a reference forum and most importantly a search button!

Re: I got the bug
schoolie,
I think the time is now thru the end of November, if you're looking to find fish in NY/NJ. I fish the Jersey Shore from the tip of Sandy Hook down to the Manasquan River, and sometimes further, if required......the fish are just starting to cooperate, for me, nothing large yet, but I have a reasonable shot at catching fish now when I go.
Good Luck out there, and let us know how you do.

Re: I got the bug
Stick around for a while and read and actively post and you'll end up replying in the same way I did. All the info is here but the same questions are asked over and over and over. My response was to help you find the info you need not nag you.

Re: I got the bug
I understand. I've been fishing a long time. All sorts of species and techniques, mostly freshwater (reservoirs and fly-fishing). I'm hooked on fishing, and those stripers are hard to beat. I'm a member of more than 1 forum. There is a wealth of knowledge in them. Getting to know guys, share experiences, and maybe fishing with them in the future is fun for me. And if I can't make it out on the water, I try to stay connected in places like this. It keeps me sane, ask my wife! LOL!
