Default 2008 flytying symposium

Spent the day at the fly tying show today. Saw alot of great tyers and missed jack gartside as he was too ill to travel. Took the first right into the show and looked right and him not there as usual was sorta sad. Made some friends and bumped into some friends and learned some more neat tricks and got some pattern ideas as well as tutorials. Rich murphy was just great sharing insight to much of my inquisitive questions about his book content. Small world as i am quite noticable i suppose? Took some pics of fly's i liked and masahito sato's son showed me the flounder pattern i was not able to learn from last years show. Some of my favorites of the show were the easiest to tie thankfully. As this show usually kicks off my cashing in my gear and hanging up the waders. i plan for the flyfishing show in january. As my season was not (again) phenomenal, i thank all of my friends for memorable times this year.

Johnny king who i spent most of my time with taught me how to tie and gave me this humungous gurgler which gartside is tying larger as well. This one is flat and all bucktail and rides vertical until you strip it ALA THE LONG SHANK TIEMCO HOOK (CAN;T GET ANY MORE) OR IF SOMEONE CAN GET EM FOR ME. and it will be a go to fly for sure.

Thanks for the report!

The flounder pattern reminds me of a pattern I had seen Jack Gartside tie with a feather he was calling chick-a-boo at the time. Feathers from the chicken's butt. Must have been 10 or more years ago.

His illness is very sad. He's in my thoughts.

I haven't been to a show in many years. I hope to get to Marlboro this year.

i got the gfs model forecast and it looks like precipitation(rain) for the whole weekend. could turn to snow but i doubt it. get ready for some serious cold for the month of december. then leveling off for first part of jan. and by end of jan into feb. BAMM! coldest since 93 i predict.(i just know it is gonna be like that as it is a carbon copy of years past as the mail delivery dates are like a clock in my body.

Great photos Zimno -does anyone know if Rich Murphy will be talking anywhere this spring? I caught my first 20 lb. striper on a fly I copied from his book, and would love to see him tie.
