Mike Ostrander of the James River Fishing School (804-938-2350) reported that striped bass are all over the James from the city to as far down as Turkey Island near Hopewell and many places in between. Good catches of stripers in the Richmond city stretch are being brought in as well.

JAMES RIVER: (Tidal Richmond area and downstream) Stripers are hooked in many portions of the river, especially down past the Varina bridge area. Catfish fans will have to wait awhile because the big blue cats are spawning

Catfish tournament Jan. 29 for tsunami relief
Virginia Catfish Association will hold a tournament Jan. 29 for tsunami relief. The catch-and-release event will be held out of Osbourne Landing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an entry fee of $20. All money will go to the relief fund being administered by the American Red Cross.
