Do you do most of your striper fishing from the shore - boat - freshwater - saltwater - river - marsh - or lake? I thought it would be fun to poll you guys.
Another minority sweetwater fisherman here. Just bought a new boat last summer and at this point I can say I'll never fish from the bank again! Woohoo!
Ok, now that I got that out of the way......
We're thinking of trying below one of the dams this weekend. Air temp is supposed to be near 70, water temp I think is around 44.
From now until spring it should just get better and better. We've caught most all of our big ones in Feb. and March.
Got these this July livelining snagged bunker off the Belmar NJ beach, a 40# and a 20#. Then had to get through a 5-6 foot surf to the beach. INot much room left in the yak but I made it to shore without flipping. What a blast!
cool_blue.gif :sign4: hello.gif I fish Rivers and Lakes that are attached to the California Aqueduct and in the California Aqueduct. Like Pyramid, Quail, silverwood,
I usually fish overnights from my little Whaler. I liove near the Cape Cod Canal, so I fish it at night too (well usually at night, sometimes b4 work in the mornings) I fish from the mouth of the Canal's west end, to Marion Harbor (for those of you who know the area) I only have one surf rod, a 10' Penn rated for 2-8 ozs. with an abu 7000 conventional on it. Man thats hard to cast at night! I want to get a spinning surf setup for night casting. For my boat I have a conventional 7' rod, a spinning 8' rod and two trolling setups. I usually fish whole pogies on the trolling setups while drifting, then cast away all night with black bombers or black sluggo's.
 Hi to all I fish Freshwater, in the California Aqueduct in Southern California. There are Catfish, Carp, and Stripers the biggest has been 62 lbs out of the California Aqueduct. Just Type in your search box California Aqueduct and it tells you all about it. It also serves as a water source for drinking, it goes through water treatment plants for Southern and Norhern California. Striper Bill
 Hi Jim where you asking me that question, if so the search engines i am on for my website are google and yahoo and 20 more and i was just looking and searching for Stripers and saw this site and that another guy caught a striper in november in 2003 and his was a 30 lb out of the California Aqueduct right here in Palmdale, and i caught mine back in April of 2002 and it was a little bigger. Not only that i wanted to know if anyone else had a website on the California Aqueduct. I was already on California hookup forums and the fishingnetwork forums! Well just posted some more pic's for today 3-18-07. I had a blast today caught total of 4 stripers today. Striper Bill:smile:
No not a question Bill just a comment. observation really. Im happy that google likes our site. We lost some steam when we crashed in late December January. The query strings all changed because we had to transfer to a new server. Most redirected. They are starting to remove the dead links and put up new ones. that makes me happy.
Ya Jim, not a problem google takes people right here and there will be more coming I'm sure and that's great ha! well talk to you later. Striper Billhappy3.gif
Hello Jimmy Z;51598
I fish for Stripers in the Southern California Aqueduct. Many years ago fished saltwater and fished many freshwater lakes in the United States. I have fished for many different fish also in Northern and Southern California. Last 30 years of my life I specialize in the California Aqueduct that is 32 feet and fast moving current it is like catching fast german browns in a fast river, using crankbaits, jigs, rubber jigs, topwater plugs and very devoted to fishing all of my life. Striper Bill
I'D SAY IT IS ABOUT A 50/50 SPILT BETWEEN SURF AND BOAT, BUT WITH THE PRICE OF FUEL, THIS SEASON I'LL PROBABLY BE IN THE SUDS MOST OF THE TIMEthumbsup.gif
saltwater striper fishing, surf casting most of the time. staten isalnd, brooklyn, will be going to fish Tappan Zee Bridge area on my bro's boat in a few weeks, looking forward to it. Ran into striper Jim last night on staten island. I caught a nice bluefish, threw back, no stripers
All Saltwater. South side of Cape Cod.(Lewis bay) Somtimes the lower cape seashore. All from shore, either beach or jetty. Tried the canal a few times but lost about $100 in gear. Oonce in a while I will hit the bass river but have had better luck in the more open water. I also have some more spots up my sleeve
If I had a boat I'd be on it, but for now I just have to look out in the bay with sad eyes as i cast from the beach. Not that there is anything wrong with the beach except tonight everyone was hitting but me.
Hey Jim....I didn't know where else to ask this. I have only caught stripers chumming using clam bellies. The other day, around 2PM I saw a couple of guys anchored (tide going out) near the shore line of Long Creek in Freeport. One of them had a fish on so I idled and waited to see what he was bringing in...of course it was a nice striper. If he wasn't chumming with bellies, what else could he have been using? Could you use a lure of some kind and let the tide take it out before retrieving it??? I'd really like to try a different method. Using bait all the time gets a bit expensive. I'm not that experienced where I know where the "spots" are to use buck tails. Thanks for anything you can give me.
I fish from a boat mostly, in Sandy Hook / Atlantic Highlands NJ. Just bought a new 11 foot surf rod to try some surf fishing also.
