Screen names. Some are really odd, some are really clever, some are obvious and some are generic.
Striperjim was easy, not too clever, nor creative, pretty generic.
I've always been curious about the names fishermen (women) take, or have been given. Anyone have any stories on their member names or selections?
Some are very cool I bet. thumbsup.gif

15 years ago a site called beer .com (long gone - no relation that I know of to todays beer.com) had an early version of a message board. Figured Sudsy was a good name for that. When the fishing boards came along I got lazy and kept using the the same name, figured it kinda fit anyway.
Had I known that more people would be calling me Sudsy then by my given name I woulda picked a better name. happy3.gif
Jim I picked salt shaker because the ocean is salty and when your plugging your shaken it up... but for 24/7 it was taken so used cinchknot and don't have the foggiest reason why...LOL
Hmmm....speaking of usernames, I am thinking about changing mine like I already did on the MM board. None of my real close friends ever even called me Jonny Bolt or "JB", my brother said Jonny Bolt 1 day like 6 or 7 years ago and it stuck somewhat....I just used it as a internet persona after that lol. "Merrillizer" is back from the dead. I killed him off years ago, but he is back for the attack!!!! th_sm19.gif
Little Casino just happens to be the name of my boat. The name go's back to the pages the American Wild West (another one of my passions) The name "Little Casino" was a nickname given to William Harrison Bonney aka Billy the Kid from Pat Garrett who eventually became Sheriff Pat Garrett and who is also credited for killing Billy (nice friend).
The second meaning of the name is (and yes there is a second)
Fishing can be gamble, you never know what your going to dealt, You can win or loose (and being in the guide buisness) one of my guest stated..."Yeah, and the house always get paid too!
I have been posting on the internet for many years, (early/mid 90's, thought 14,400 baud was blistering!). First on the Newsgroups, the political ones and then almost exclusively talk.politics.guns.
With the advent of the World Wide Web and the emergence of web message boards my time on Usenet waned.
I have had dozens of monikers over the years, John Locke is one I still post under when discussing rights (gun rights mostly) and American political theory.
I have a few now on newspaper operated boards that are just extensions of my abrasive, know-it-all personality . . . europe_rick (say it out loud), jeerleader, pocono_pete are my present nicks on those various non-fishing boards.
I have one other name on a couple other fishing boards, Sgt_ Slough. I began using ReelinRod because my name is really Rod and it seems a good wordplay and more importantly, to try to put the "Sarge" moniker to bed and maybe lighten up a bit. I guess I will just need to make the Sgt. "disappear" over on the other boards eye.gif .
I have created some humorous ones based on the following just for short term fun, irritating crackpots.
Will E. Orwontee
Luke Atmidyk
Rick O'Shea (great for the gun boards)
Mike Raffone
Chris P. Bacon
Pete Sakes
Drew Blood
Ollie Gerclamwell
And the one that really gets some folks in a tizzy . . .
mines definetley corny but ill tell ya anyway. my name is jim, being a guitar player i thought jimi hendrix had a cool spelling so that explains jimi... the 4290 were the last 4 digits of an old phone number back when i first set up my yahoo acct. i have been using this u/n forever, its easier for me to remember.
Well, Nu2stripers, hadn't caught a one at the time I signed on and needed a username.
I'm LittleMiamiJeff www.indianastripedbass.org etc.
Little Miami river is just minutes away from my house, and I'm named Jeff, so, LMJ!
I've used OKJeff before, owned Ocean Kayak, hence the OK.
jacts319 is the prefix to my email, Acts 3:19 is a favorite bible verse of mine, so I incorporated it into my personal email.
Passage Acts 3:19:
19Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
Well fans of the Opie and Anthony show will get my name, and I'm obsesed so on the Kayak Fishing Stuff board while looking for a yak I was Lil' Connor (think Modesto CA.) When I got a yak thought it was time for a new name My real first name is Pat in NY their is a TV reporter name Pat Battle, Sweet Jimmy Norton became enamored with her, and the name started to become part of the show like Pat Battle-mode, when a fight was a brewing, Pat Battle-____ ect... A kayak is a type of ship and some may say I'm fat enough to be the Battle-Ship of the fishing Kayaks biglaugh.gif
I work as a Farrier (aka blacksmith/horseshoer) for a living, and own horses. Hence the name sadlsorz (saddle sores). A lot of people think it is sad loser, which after this fall run so far, would be kind of fitting too.biglaugh.gif

Long before some scientist discoverd a fish in latin america(or some such place),bore the same name, our beloved Striped bass were known as ROCCUS SAXATILLIS, well these brain suergons decided to let the "other" fish keep the Roccus sir name and dubbed our noble fish morone saxatillis, IMHO a much less noble sir name, I being of the old school adopted it's name... on those nights when it's not going my way, and the fish are there but not feeding, I can be heard coaxing them to bite by wispering "come on ROCCUS"th_icon_splitform.g:
Very nice.
But unfortunately my knowledge of horses is limited to the ponies.
Now them I studied over way too many beers.
Ill take happy fella in the 5th at Belmont
:trout:
My name, obviously, is not at all clever. It describes my favorite way to fish and I use it on everything form my email to my board names. The day is hot. The season is summer, and I'm sitting on the boat deck slowly retrieving a lure, either surface or subsurface. I'm in a daydream, nearly asleep, when my world is changed by the sudden and unexpeted delight of a fish on the line. Slowretrieve. My favorite way to fish.
I was given my handle by some military biker friends. As an officer in Rolling Thunder, AZ I was ALWAYS riding the rear of the pack, protecting it from stoopid cagers. We had a run in outside of Winkelman, AZ with a car that was trying to split us up and I wouldn't let them (there were 20 of us running down the road). Somebody said, "Man, you're a real Tailgunner back there." The name stuck.
My wife says it because I never look above a woman's waist from behind.
My username, baitrunner, goes back to when I was a little kid and it stuck. Many people think I took it from Shimano, but my dad and brothers called me that when I was a kid because I was always the one out early getting the bait before our little fishing trips. If dad said we were leaving at 5am,, I was out at 3 digging worms and grubs, or lurking around the porch light catching insects to toss with my homemade 'fly rod' for bucketmouths. I was obsessed with getting the best bait I could find and almost as obsessed with fishing as I am today. Even today,, live bait is my weapon of choice, though it looks much different than the little stuff I grew up with in Missouri.
