Default Wading & the End Game

Hi All,

New guy here. Been fishing all my life, but only 3 years in the surf. Landing fish on the beach is pretty straight forward, but I'm wondering if anybody has any tips on releasing/unhooking big blues while your up to your waist in water. It's a little harder to get a hold of them when you're in the water...

I use a lip gripper like a Boga on the yellow eyed devils. Also, I've taken to crimping down the barbs on all but the front hook on my plugs. Blues usually hit the tail hook and a hook with a crimped barb makes for a much easier release.

Thanks baitrunner.

I like to crimp my barbs down also. Much easier on the fish. If the blues are thick, I'll try to stick with a single hook lure like a bucktail. It still gets a little hairy though when your hands are cold, it's dark and that bluefish is still a bit green...

This is the only reason I carry a Boga.

I just squeeze the hell out of them and pry my lure with this.

boga is the only way to go.
carry a knife?
lip it with the boga and slice it's throat!
if your into bluefish then your into bluefish and the
blood won't make a difference.

Im lucky I can carry the lure bag. If its a big bitch then the gaff comes off the belt and i drag it in by the gill plate.
heave it back out and lay down for a while.
