After all these years and probably close to a thousand stripers, I have yet to break the 40" mark. This 39.25" from 2006 was nice though and mpb

After 4+ years of hitting the river and never having caught anything over about 30", I got these two within an hour of each other last year...37" and 36". Persistence pays off I guess....so looking forward to this year...

Ha! We're reading from the same script. "Yearly affirmations"
We've certainly earned it! One things for sure, when that day comes I'll be at the bar stimulating the local economy.

This thread has been great and I'm glad I started it, BUT.... Now I truly realize how far and few between these hogs can be. Seeing "my biggest in 2007" or "my biggest from 2012" just sets in the reality that I may be chasing my dads 42" 37.5lb beast for a long while. Chances are that even if I hit that length, the weight may not match up cuz his was so fat and he can still claim the "bigger" fish due to weight. Here's to hoping I get lucky and take down his length/weight in one shot!!! And btw guys, nice touch posting those 4 oz striped bass. Made me laugh. My dad stopped letting me photograph his small catches cuz I send the pics to him throughout the year for a laugh when I get bored

My biggest in the River was caught in 2003 in the Rondout up at the damn. We were jigging for herring and a 42" cow came by and swallowed the 2 bottom herring on my sabiki rig......thank got it was only 6 feet deep and a dead end because i managed to bring her in but I've never caught anything that size in the River since then. I've been just a 1/4" shy of 40".

Before I got my 48.5 I got 4, 40-42inch fish in my first 5 years. Then it took me to last year that day you were fishin by me when your dad got that big oNE and I got two 40 inchers. You never know. I get lots of 38s and 39 just about every year. My jinks is lifted lol.lots of good die hards have yet to break 40 but most of them have seen them caught. Sometimes being lucky is better than being good. But that's why we do it. You never know when that cow could bite
