Question buying herring

Hey guys--first post as a new member.

Where can I go buy fresh herring? I'm in the Albany area and I'll be fishing somewhere tomorrow between Albany and Catskill (prob East Greenbush). I know to go for herring myself and I'll certainly try, but I am worried I might not be able to get them up here yet; reports are scattered still and it is really cold tonight.

I was thinking of trying Flying Arrow, but I haven't been there before so I don't know what they have and quality. I just want to make sure I have some bait in case I can't find herring; I don't want to waste too much time hunting herring that isn't here.

What about finding bloodworms up here (even though I know they are kind of pointless up in Albany).

Thanks guys and tight lines.

Hunting herring is half the trip. Don't short yourself on the total experience. You will catch many more herring than bass.

I visited Hudson River Bait and Tackle Sat. 18 The owner said there IS Herring in small numbers in the area, and that he wil be netting and selling Herring next week, The owner is one of only a couple of people liscenced and registered in N.Y.S to net and sell Herring. Check out his {.com} for directions. He is also stocked and ready for the season !!!!!

Nope. The owners are from Conesville/Manorkill. I work with them and I live in Coxsackie. I have a commercial gill net, scap net, and transport permit so I am supplying their herring. They've been spotty, but I always get a few...
