I'm not a boat guy but I think you would use umbrella rigs in deeper water. And with that small boat I'd be careful. You have a nice river boat I'd fish the shallows an night with eels and plugs. And fish the day and mornings chasing bait in the rivers and shorelines. I think this would be your best bet. But again I haven't had a boat in years and fish from the shore. Good luck and be smart. Also read some of Roc's posts. That should give you an idea.
allow me to be less of a ballbuster.
are we trolling with a trolling motor at least? please tell me more. i want to help and not make you feel awkward. i can't read your mind as to what you are intending to do and with what gear. everything has a price to pay and a setback/ 1. what rod and reel?
2. what trolling motor?
3. what is the water you will be fishing in?
4. ask afterwards.
only one umbrella. thats a 9'r.$40 a whack. check 'em out online I fished these for a few years out of my 16' aluminum I drilled a flush mount rod holder in the seat. I used a penn 113 hsp with wire line i've lost about 4 or 5 of them in rocks traps and other crap on the ocean floor. $5-650 later...
All I can say is if you are trolling anything make it an eel at nite or first light, they will work in the day too but not as effective. I had my best season this year and I have been fishin for 15 years. The ONLY bait/tactic I used this season was EELS!!! 18 keepers on 15 eels is my record for this season.
