Sorry Everyone. The Database crashed over the weekend.
Unfortunately I don't have direct access. There was nothing I could do except build some web sites.
Maybe make the signature one into a gamer site. ???

Automatic thread tagger.

This handy little modification will help in your searches. When a user enters a post the thread will automatically be tagged with the relevant keywords. It will not overide a users manually tagging a thread, but can clean it using the title of the thread. This will dramtically aid in finding a thread you were looking for. When a user submits a new thread this modification will automatically take keywords from the thread title and use these as tags.

Pardon our appearance of the forum at the moment. We're redoing the entire landlocked category. Im redoing the forums alphabetically by State. This will make it very easy to search out different impoundments and information and help reduce the clutter. It Should take a few days.

Well its taking more than a few days.
I will be consolidating other forums so if you cant find a thread look in your usercontrol panel for prescribed threads. (these are threads in which you have posted) Make sure your settings say prescribe without notification unless you want to be notified of replies.

Remember to use the cloud tags for ease of use as well. These help in identifying specific threads as well as search engine optimization.

Those of you who operate forums probably have noticed an increase in the rash of spmmers.
Well the trolls have figured out how to beat recaptcha with a bought software but i wont mention the name of it at least not in public.

For v bulletin forums.
This is the best way I've found around it. Won't keep them all away but many

vbstopformspam
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=176481

INSTALLATION
Easy! Takes only a five minutes.

1 - Upload the contents of the upload folder into the root of your forums. Dont upload the "upload" folder itself, just the contents of the upload folder.
If youve changed the admincp folder to something else, then make sure you move the admincp files into that folder.
2 - Import the xml into products. (AdminCP -> Plugin System -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product)
3 - Edit the options. (AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> vbStopForumSpam

4 - You can edit the default rejection message by Admin Control Panel / Languages & Phrases / Phrase Manager / Front-End Error Messages / vbstopformspam_reject and vbstopformspam_reject_connection error
If you cant see the logs in ACP/ Statistics and Logs, then you didnt upload the contents of the "upload" folder.... Its there for a reason, upload its contents to the root of your forum. This isnt an issue, its just something that 99% of the "it doesnt work" issues arise from
If you get a SQL database error when deleting a usergroup, its because you had 0.61 installed and didnt rebuild your bitfields after reinstalling 0.61 You can do this by admincp/index.php?do=buildbitfields
If you had 0.61 (and below) installed, you MUST delete includes/xml/bitfield_vbstopforumspam.xml

Thanks Jim. I switched mine from reCAPTCHA back to Q&A verification for the time being, and it stopped them, but I'll look at this as well

Stopforum spam module has stopped an average of 410 signups per day.
Logging them is a waste of bandwidth and resources and probably is preventing legitimate registrations.
The black hats have developed software that defeats recaptcha and has been mass marketed.
We have gone back to question and answer registration.

Unless they have 'Watson' they wont get in.

I will be moving things around and combining some forums to make them more user friendly.
In the interests of ease of search and an overall better user experience.
Boat repair issues & Shop Maintenance
forum has been moved from How to do it yourself category to the boater forum.
The plan is to get the boater forum not only active but exceedingly helpful.
The freshwater forums will see the most consolidation as they are the least contributed to.
Soon we will go to the Vbulletin suite 4.- version.
This 3.7 version is very stable and secure but it is planned for an end of life by 2012. The new version will allow the user to easily publish blogs and has other features. Some useful others not so much. When we do the upgrade we may be down for a few hours. i will give everyone a heads up at least a few days in advance.

thanks
sj

There have been some quirky problems with new registrants and the arcade and photoplog system are having some issues. Tech support is currently looking into it.
A move to 4.1 suite is coming. Thats a good thing. The end of life of the 3xx system is coming soon enough.

Upgrade to 4.1
