In mouth thru top of head. There's a soft spot. Gotta get it right or you'll kill them instantly.

I run a small zip tie through the nostrils the tighten it on my hook. They'll live all day.

I usually hook them thru either the nostrils or just in front of the dorsal fin.

Last year was my first year and I hooked them all just in front of the dorsal fin. Didn't have any problem. This year, just to switch things up, I've been hooking them right thru that hard spot on their forehead. Works good on casting and they'll stay alive for hrs! Oh, and a lot easier to reel in....Only 2 runs I've had this year have been successful.

Usually right through the nostrils works well for me.

I have fish with a lot of guys who hook them by the dorsil and from what I have seen they die faster and I have witnessed them swimming on the surface for some reason when they are hooked like that, through the nose seems to be the most natural looking presentation

In the mouth, out the middle of the nose

Through the mouth and out the hard part of the head. Stay on and alive for hours unless they are eaten first. Swim more naturally and the hook never burries itself like when you hook them through the back.

Don't go through both the bottom and top of their mouth. It cuts the ability to open and close the mouth leading to shorter life.
