Default Questions about umbrella rigs???

I troll in fresh water lakes in the midwest. I have the rods, lines, downriggers, and patience. What I don't have is a clue to umbrella rigs other than what I see in advertisements. Most seem to be 4 armed with a longer one in the middle.

I will be trolling mostly in deeper water (40' to 70') in 130' deep water. Up till now I have had luck with trolling a single 6" to 10" plug like a rapala, and spinner baits. The umbrella rig looks interesting and would like to try one with 6" soft swimbaits.

Are there different wire sizes?
Different wire lengths?
Heavy duty - light duty?
Cadilac or Yugo?
Leader length on the short ones?
Leader length on the center longer one?
Should they (swimbaits) all match?
Recomend a place to order some?
Does the rig count as one plug or is it 5. Here in Missouri we have a 3 hook rule, so if it counts as 5, I could bend 2 of them closed.
Probably 50 more questions that I haven't thought of yet.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated because I have no clue to what I am going to do. If this subject is covered somewhere here, I didn't find it.

Thanks in advance

Default Re: Questions about umbrella rigs???

To try to clear up what I am asking - I've found pre-rigged U-rigs on the internet from $23.00 all the way up to $54.00 (same amount of teasers on each) , and un-rigged from $3.75 to $35.00. That is where I got confused. Yeah I know "you get what you pay for" most of the time, and is this one of those times? I'm not looking for a professional super-duper thing to hand down to my grandkids, and I also don't want one that becomes a piece of $%&! after I try to use it.

I've seen 7" 3 arm up to 24" 6 arm. Some are flat and some are umbrella like. Some have 3 teasers and all the way up to 16.

Confused yet? I am.

Thanks in advance
