I havent owned any so Im not much help. I have heard good things about the Ocean Master. The Surfking is made in China not Seattle. I still think it carries the Lamiglas lifetime warranty though.

When you say distance what are we talking?
For normal surfcasting situations like to reach past a rip 100 yards or so, a decent reel and braid
will get you good distance on the mentioned 10 or 11 foot rods.
If its real distance (none of the above) -
You would need a hattaras type heaver rod and a casting reel for getting past a
distant sandbar like down in the Carolinas.

I'm looking to chose btw the Abu 7000C and the penn 525 reels. I know that the Abu is levelwind n the penn is open face.which is better for a beginner to learn to throw further?

I'm looking for distance like btw 100 n 200 yards.ill b tossing 3 to 8oz(5 or 6oz mostly) plus chunk bait.

I would strongly recommend an AFAW 6nbait rod. For what you're looking to do, in my opinion, this is one of the best rods out there, check out the video in the link. Available in a variety of lengths. I have the 11' and love it. It's light and powerful, and a good looking rod to boot. Check out http://www.carolinacastpro.com/, and email Tommy for availability.

I have an Abu 6500 chrome rocket on mine, but the 7000c would be right at home as well. In my opinion the Penn 525 is built more toward plugging, and is a little too fast for most beginners.

I have a fairly new SK 10ft 3-8oz. I am pleased with it so far, but I think it's more of a heavy pluggin rod, not a chunking rod.

It will throw a 3 or 4 ounce lure a long way, but I think 6+bait would really be pushing it. I got it to throw a wide variety of lures and occasional light bait.

It has a one year warranty.

Ook thanx for the input. Ill most likely b throwin chunk bait and once and awhile ill throw a 4 oz popper if that's wat there biting.

I dnt hear much about the penn pro guides series. Does anybody have any input on that series?

From the look of things, the ocean master seems to be the better rod btw the 3. Does anybody else have any input on the 3 rods. (if you guys or gals have any other suggestion for any other rod b my guess, I'm looking to spend about $130 on jus the rod)

Thanx

Have a look at the Tica UEHA as a budget rod. I used one for chunking 4 ounce to 8 ounce weights and bunker heads with no issues at all. It also has backbone to turn a fish. Ive also fished the Tica dolphin surf rod for 1 to 3 ounce plugs. Not that bad at all.
Ive read that others love the Ocean Master Cape Special from Bass pro for an off the rack 8 and bait rod, but the Tica bait stick is also half the 125 price tag.

Yea I've heard good things about tica surf rods. But I read a forum somewhere that stated that tica rods tend to break a lot. How true is that?

How much does the tica UEHA rods go for?

Ill b pairing it up wit a abu 7000C.

I remember having to replace the tip a few times on the ueha and i think the Dolphin tip broke as well.
Still If you can get one cheap on ebay it might be worth it. < 80
Tica Surf
You may also want to look at the St. Croix Triumph rod for about 120 for plugging.
Triumph Surf Rod
I dont really like to recommend rods or reels to anyone that really is a preference thing.
But whats available for the budget are here.
Cabelas Casting rods
The Tsunamis are cheap too and are ok until your ready to upgrade.
I love the Breakaways and the St. Croixs for bait sticks.
I havent used the Lamiglas supersurf yet.
