Fly & Light Tackle Fishing Trips Year Around

Fishing on the Susquehanna Flats in 2009

The water temperature and clarity on the Susquehanna Flats this year, between April 17th to May 3rd, allowed anglers to cast floating line for some topwater action in the skinny waters, or sinking line when striped bass pulled off the flats into deeper waters. The majority of striped bass caught this year were in waters between 2' to 5'.

Joanne Isaac Caught this Striper on Topwater
Summery: There were quite a few 'blow ups' on topwater flies and lures, but the very large stripers were tough to catch this season.

Upcoming: Starting in the 1st week of June, the resident striped bass, ranging from 16 to 24 inches, will be in their summer pattern. This gives anglers the opportunity to catch stripers on topwater, or down deep.

Fishing Tip: Now is the time to learn how to cast sinking fly lines. The majority of large striped bass caught in the summer will be from the deeper water columns on specific flies using a variety of techniques.
