Default Is there anybody in there?

New to the Hampton Roads area and wondering what months the stripers run around here. I only live a quarter-mile from the Nansemond River, and am wondering what might be lurking out there. I'm not far from the James River and have heard that there's good fishing out there, not sure about the stripers though. Anyway, I see it's been over a year since the last activity in this forum, hope there are still folks out there who can help me out.
Thank you,

I am no where near VA. Are you new to fishing, or just new to the area. Do you own a boat?

Stripers can be in bays, but are mostly in the ocean well past casting range. However, folks do catch stripers in bays in the summer. Their spawning route up to freshwater tributaries is your best bet by far.

In Long Island bays some stripers come for eels in the late summer early fall.

Best bet is to learn how to read water, and what the movement of the water means for structure. Stripers are deer hunters, they find a good spot and wait. You can learn those spots now. Sandbars move, sometime daily, but overall structure stay in that general area.

A so-so spot casted maybe 20 feet in any direction from can be a huge difference. If you got a boat, start driving around and mark use your sonar to find these spots. Mark them on a GPS, they may move, but not far.

The littler fish in your area can use the same structure and tactics.

There's a few great videos on learning the surf and how to read waves. There's also videos on how to do this from channels as well.
