Default Striper Fishing Bakersfield taft palmdale area

Hey everybody. Let me start off by giving you a little info about myself. I last fished the aqueduct around 2006-2008 and was hooked fishing out by the bv golf course near taft. I am moving back into the area and was thinking about trying out some lures. I wanted to ask exactly how to fish a rat l trap. does it dive? any advice would be much appreciated. also what size line do you recommend?

The Rat-L-Trap is an excellent lure! Not sure about the area you are fishing and the best lures to use, but I'm sure the ol' Rat-L-Trap will produce.

The bait doesn't dive, but it does "fall" to the depth you allow it to reach. Cast it out, let it sink to the desired depth, and retrieve. I normally fish it near the bottom just because I've never been in a situation where I had to throw it in deeper water.

I prefer a slow steady retrieve, being sure to feel the lure vibrate as you work it. Sometimes it will snag some vegetation or something and you can tell because more often than not you won't feel the "vibration" as you retrieve it. Play around with it though, some people prefer to "rip" the bait through the water, letting it settle back down after every sweep of the rod tip. Sometimes I'll crank, crank, crank, stop! Then repeat....

Good luck
Think like a fish....

In the shallow river that I fish, the Rat-L-Trap was hot in the latter half of the season. I'd cast around the deeper holes near to where chunks of the shore had caved in. As soon as the lure hit the water I'd pull back hard enough to feel it vibrate. Then pull various times during a medium slow retrieve.
The lure doesn't necessarily dive, but is angled downward and will stay down a bit.
