Whats up man, how ya been?

Looks like you're only running 128mb of RAM. This is terrible Back when you got your Dell, they were selling them like hotcakes and only installing 128mb of RAM by default. You could upgrade ofcourse at the time of purchase, but many many people were unknowingly purchasing PC's from them without bothering to upgrade, assuming that Dell's default setup was enough to get by. Not so....

WinXP is an extremely memory intensive Operating System, and by itself it is using up most of your available RAM, leaving your PC screaming and crying out for more available RAM, this increasing page file size to make up for the difference and stressing the processor, as well as eating up system resources etc etc etc. I have labeled this "The Bog", or memory bog.

My first and immediate suggestion for you is to hit up crucial.com, use their easy drop down boxes to navigate to your Dimension model number, and it will automatically give you the proper choices of compatible memory for your 4600. I recommend getting ATLEAST 2 sticks of 256mb RAM, for a total of 512mb. This should run you about 100 bux shipped.

I have seen this time and time again....as a matter of fact, I just worked on a 4600 last week that had the same problem. Order 2 sticks of 256mb RAM, then when they come, remove the 128mb stick from the slot, and replace it with the 2 you bought. Your motherboard has 2 memory slots. Fill em up!

Just make sure you install the memory sticks into either the black or white, dont do 1 in each.

that is some serisously expensive ram!
I'd check ebay first.

I can dual sticks of 512 for 1024 mb for 100 dollars, shipped.
but that computer cant support a 512 stick I dont think.
Try eBay and search "256 MB RAM" without the quoatations. Make sure its 2x256, that way you have 512, but dont buy a 512 stick.

Ebay is ok for ram, but through my business I have had some problems with people on there selling RAM. Also, cheap ram is cheap ram. And the CAS Latency is usually high on lower priced RAM. I run 2gb of Crucial Ballistix RAM and love it.

Your motherboard is a "4 (2 banks of 2)" setup. Meaning, you have 4 RAM slots, and 2 banks of 2 slots. Your motherboard can handle a total of 4gb of RAM. Since yours is a 2 x 2 configuration (like most better motherboards), you have to purchase memory sticks in pairs. If you can afford it, I would get 2 sticks of 512mb, for a total of 1gb. You could get 2 512's, 2 256's, or do what I did and get 4 512's for a total of 2gb. Its all about budget really, but make sure you get ATLEAST 2 sticks of 256.
